From comics to films to musicals: At the end of August, “Joker: Folie À Deux” celebrated its world premiere at the 81st Venice Film Festival. The first part was shown there in 2019 and won the Golden Lion for best film.
The sequel goes one step further: with a running time of 138 minutes, it is a full 16 minutes longer than the first part. The highlight? This time, alongside the legendary Arthur Fleck, none other than Lady Gaga shines in the role of Harley Quinn!

While Lady Gaga will be recognizable to many fans, she plays a completely different and new role in the second Joker film. Director Todd Phillips explains that some elements of Harley were taken from the comics but redesigned.
But that’s not all: the film combines drama and musical elements. However, fans can’t expect a classic musical.
What does that mean? The first “Joker” film already featured dance scenes and music. This highlighted Arthur Fleck’s character development. This concept will probably be continued in “Joker: Folie à Deux”.

At the end of the first “Joker” film, the mentally ill Arthur Fleck was placed in Gotham’s psychiatric hospital because he committed a murder on camera. If the second part stays true to the comics, Fleck meets the former psychiatrist Harleen Quinzel, known as Harley Quinn, in Arkham Asylum.
