Jonatan Christie defeat Ng Tze Yong 14-21, 21-19, 21-16 in the quarterfinals Thomas Cup 2020. Indonesia has a 3-0 lead over Malaysia and qualified for the semifinals!
Competing at Court 1 Aarhus Arena, Denmark, Friday (10/15/2021), Jonathan, or familiarly called Jojo, had difficulties from the start. He even fell behind 4-11, before closing the game with a 14-21 defeat.
In the second game, Jonathan replied. He has always been leading since the beginning of Yong. Leading 3-0 early on, Jojo maintained his lead until the 11-7 interval.
Yong had time to catch up Jonatan Christie, by narrowing the score to 20-19. However, error Ng Tze Yong in the struggle for the next points ensured Jojo’s game to 21-19.
In the third game, Jojon vs Yong was tight. However, Jojo appeared slick from the start, and ensured a 21-16 victory.
Jojo’s victory put Indonesia 3-0 up over Malaysia, out of five scheduled matches. That is, the Red and White team has confirmed the semifinal ticket.
Previously, two other Indonesian representatives had also won. Anthony Ginting beat Lee Zii Jia 21-15, 21-17 in singles and duets Kevin Sanjaya/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon overcame Malaysian doubles match, Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, with a score of 21-17, 16-21, 21-15.
In the semifinals, Indonesia will wait for the winner of Denmark vs India. Until this news was revealed, the two were still competing, with the last score 2-1 in favor of the hosts. The semifinals will be held on Saturday (16/10/2021).
