Jakarta –
Jonathan Christie keep Indonesia’s men’s singles hope by qualifying for the quarterfinals Badminton Asia Championship 2022. Unfortunately, this step failed to be followed by the men’s doubles Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan.
Jonathan made his way to the last 8 round after defeating the Malaysian representative Liew Daren in the rubber game battle in the second round, on Thursday (28/4/2022).
The Swiss Open 2022 champion won with a score of 21-14, 13-21, 21-19 over Liew. He finished it after playing for 55 minutes.
Through this victory, Jojo, as he is affectionately called, further cemented his lead in the record meeting with Liew. After previously winning 3-1, now it is 4-1.
In the quarter-finals, Jonathan will meet Singapore’s representative, Loh Kean Yew. In the four meetings between the two, Jonathan has never been defeated.
Their last meeting was presented in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic group stage. Jonathan, who is in Group G, defeated Loh with a tight score of 22-20, 13-21, 21-18.
In the other second round match, Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan were eliminated by Chinese doubles Ren Xiang Yu/Tan Qiang.
This result is quite surprising considering that The Daddies, nicknamed Hendra/Ahsan, are the double favorites to win. But it can be made helpless by the 340th ranked pair in the world.
The world’s number 2 men’s doubles was defeated after playing two games.l with a score of 9-21, 15-21 in 27 minutes.
