Television allegedly just wants to protect its purchased sports rights.
Commercial group JOJ launched its own sports television JOJ Šport and is currently trying to ensure that the Czech public television ČT Sport is not available on the market. Her years on the market did not matter, now the situation has changed – JOJ bought some sports rights for our market.
For the sake of completeness, it should be noted that Czech Television has never given Slovak operators permission to distribute a sports station in our territory. But he is not “fighting” against proliferation. It was a kind of gentleman’s agreement between Czech Television and RTVS – they didn’t mind that viewers in the other country always had access to their stations.
We also addressed JOJ on the topic. She declined to comment.
Czech television has been bothering JOJ for a long time
The long-term availability of Czech Television in our country and RTVS in the Czech Republic did not bother commercial television and other entities in the market either – the Czech public broadcaster does not ask for money from Slovak operators and they also do not sell advertising for our market.
JOJka already in 2017 called on Slovak operatorsto turn off Czech Television stations. That’s when it met with a huge wave of reluctance. It’s been a few weeks changed her statements and she stated that it wasn’t really the end of her stations here. It is said that she was primarily bothered by the presence of the Nova and Prima canals – ie commercial stations. At Czech Television, it should have prevented her from giving consent to Slovak operators, even though she does not have rights for our territory.
At that time, we pointed out that it is also common in Europe for operators to offer public service television from other countries – in full form, even though they do not have purchased licenses for acquisition content valid for another country.

It is currently a ČT Sport
JOJ Television does not currently want to be the complete end of Czech Television stations on our market. For now, she would like the operators not to distribute ČT Sport, which broadcasts content to which it has JOJ rights for its JOJ Sport.
At the end of November managed to reach an agreement with Skylink, which blocked the station by Slovaks – after many years.
“The law firm representing TV JOJ has warned us that some of our Slovak customers may have access to the ČT Sport program,” Jaromír Glisník, a member of the board of M7 Group, told Živé.sk.

Others want to negotiate or look for other options
Hundreds of thousands of clients of this operator have lost access to the station. So far, JOJ has not been successful with other players who still provide broadcasts for viewers.
Telekom along with Digi Slovakia they said they would want to talk to the JOJ first about this topic.
“The Slovak Telekom Group is in contact with the broadcaster of the JOJ Šport channel. First of all, we have to explain to each other the controversial issues that have arisen in connection with the spread of JOJ Sport on the Slovak market. Only after clarifying them will we be able to take a stand on the distribution of sports content through our TV services, “said Telekom spokesman Michal Korec.
Orange he said he complied with all applicable contracts with broadcasters. “Therefore, if the broadcaster does not have broadcasting rights in our territory, we will take all steps to prevent the violation of the local broadcaster’s rights associated with the station,” said Orange spokeswoman Alexadra Piskun. Whether this will mean the end of ČT Sport in the offer and since then, she did not say.

UPC a Satro they do not want to comment on the topic so far. Antique he said negotiations with all stakeholders were just beginning.
Swan he also confirmed that he had been called upon to shut down ČT Sport. He says he understands JOJ’s investment in content. However, he does not want to exclude the station – he plans to block only the selected content. “These will only be sports programs for which JOJ Šport has purchased rights in Slovakia,” said Swan spokesman Pavel Ďurík.
Better TV she said she had not received the challenge – everything should remain as before. O2 does not have the ČT Sport channel on offer.
