Pugh Rogefeldt passed away last May 1, aged 76.
Now SVT is showing the tribute concert from last October, “De va dä, dä”.
One who was on stage both last fall and when Pugh started his career in 1969 is Jojje Wadenius, 78.
Pugh Rogefeldt was a pioneering pioneer, one of the first to sing pop and rock in Swedish. So when he was to be celebrated at a concert at Cirkus in Stockholm last fall, many artists lined up and did their Pugh interpretations:
Eva DahlgrenFirst Aid Kit, Hurula, John Holm, Markus Krunegård, Mats Ronander, Mikael Rickfors & Göran Lagerberg in Grymlings, Per Gessle with Linnea Olsson, Victor Norén and Theo Moreau, Pernilla Andersson, Tomas Ledin and Ulf Dageby were some of them. Fredrik Lindström was conference.
And on guitar in a number of songs: Jojje Wadenius.

Has played with world artists
He who has played with world artists such as Blood, Sweat & Tears, Steely Dan and Simon & Garfunkel. As made classic children’s records. And much more.
– It felt good that Pugh received the praise he deserved from both older and younger artists, says Jojje.
For him, too, a circle was closed. He and Janne “Loffe” Carlsson (1937–2017), then better known as a drummer than a comic actor, accompanied Pugh Rogefeldt on his first two albums in 1969 and 1970. Jojje got the job thanks to the super producer Anders Burman (1928–2013).
– I worked a lot with him then. He thought I could add something to the process. I arranged the songs as needed, created some riffs and such. What we had done in the group Made in Sweden was related, although Pugh had his own unique personality.
– We made the first record in a few days. Much is improvised in the moment. That it turned out so well was also because Anders sensed that Pugh and I would work with “Loffe”. It was not entirely a given.

“The first time he was almost a little afraid of me”
Did you have any idea that the two albums would be groundbreaking?
– That’s not how you think as a musician. You do what you think is fun. The same thing with the children’s plates together with Barbro Lindgren, I never imagined they would gain such cult value. I still do concerts with them. The other day in the Jönköping area. Then three generations will come and listen.
How close did you and Pugh get to each other?
– The first time he was almost a little afraid of me. Had too much respect. Thought I was a studio musician who could do everything. But I was as self-taught and as much a child of nature as he was. When we reunited for the record “Win hjärta win” (2008) we became close friends and remained so until he passed away. Our wives also became close.

The truth behind the title
Any favorite Pugh song?
– Maybe “Small light clouds”, “Here comes the night” and “Stinsen från Bro”.
Is it true that you came up with the title for the debut album, “Ja, dä ä dä!”?
– I think so, or… “Loffe” also teased him because he often said it, it became an inside joke in the studio.
What do you do nowadays?
– Right now a performance called “Life is not just music”. Besides playing and singing, I also talk about who I was before I met my wife, who passed in 2022, and who I became thanks to her. I’m doing it at the Soppteatern at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in Stockholm this weekend and again in a few weeks. With on stage is Lotta Hasselquist Nilssonwho was married to Stefan Nilsson (1995–2023). She, too, is an awfully good pianist.
