Joint press conference of Spanish and Belgian Prime Ministers in Raffaele condemning Israel; Israel protested
Cairo: Joint press conference of the Prime Ministers of Spain and Belgium at the Rafah border in Egypt to condemn Israel’s attacks on Gaza.
Spanish Prime Minister Petro Sanchez said that Gaza is the greatest humanitarian disaster of modern times.
He said that the current ceasefire is not enough and a permanent ceasefire is needed. Sanchez said the recognition of Palestine as an independent state is one of the main agendas of his administration.
Belgium President Alexander de Crewe also reiterated Sanchez’s stance.
The two prime ministers announced that they will recognize Palestine as an independent state if the European Union does not recognize it and called on the international community to recognize the Palestinian state.
The two visited Rafah after a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
Meanwhile, Israel summoned the ambassadors of Spain and Belgium to protest the remarks of the two prime ministers.
Hamas released 13 Israeli hostages on November 24 as part of the Israel-Hamas ceasefire agreement. Hamas released 12 Thai hostages yesterday in an agreement with the Thai government.
39 Palestinians in Israeli jails were released yesterday.
As part of the four-day cease-fire, the agreement calls for the release of 50 Israelis held hostage by Hamas and 150 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.
