Joint Pain and Fever at the Same Time, How to Treat It?

The joint pain that is felt along with the fever will subside when the cause of the infection is gone.

GridHEALTH.idFever makes a person’s body temperature rise to exceed the average temperature.

Apart from causing the body to feel warm or even hot, fever is also sometimes followed by a sensation joint pain.

Quoting Penn Medicine, fever is an important part of the body’s defense against infection.

This is because most of the bacteria and viruses that cause infection develop best when the body temperature is around 37 degrees Celsius.

Although this is the body’s natural way of fighting infectious diseases, other complaints that accompany it will certainly add to the discomfort.

Reporting from the Loma Linda University Health page, chair of orthopedics Thomas Donaldson, MD, said, when infected the body will mount an immune response and send antibodies to prevent it from spreading further.

Pain that is felt in the joints and muscles, is actually caused by the response of the body’s immune system.

Later, after the antibodies bind to the virus that causes the infection, the body will produce proteins to kill the virus. It’s the protein that causes the accompanying symptoms.

In addition, joint pain during fever is also related to white blood cells that produce cytokines. Thus, in the end there is inflammation in the muscles and joints.

“Inflammation can cause pain similar to mild arthritis,” says Donaldson.

Fortunately, the pain that is felt is temporary and will go away when the body has successfully fought off the infection.
