Joint Efforts to Counter Cross-Border Crime: Spanish Cybercrime Experts to Train Bulgarian Investigators and Prosecutors

The chief prosecutors of Bulgaria and Spain have agreed at the beginning of next year that experts from the Spanish specialized prosecutor’s office on cybercrimes will conduct training for Bulgarian investigators and prosecutors. This happened during Borislav Sarafov’s meeting in Madrid with Alvaro García Ortiz. Acting Chief Prosecutor Borislav Sarafov is on a two-day visit to the Kingdom of Spain, BNR informs.

According to Borislav Sarafov, the new times present investigators with new challenges and the need for more joint actions between European prosecutors’ offices. He drew particular attention to cybercrime, citing figures from his Spanish hosts that in a very short period it had jumped nearly 300 percent in the Kingdom.

“The world is going digital. More and more crimes are committed in a digital environment and we have to take this into account,” commented Sarafov and thus announced the upcoming training.

Joint efforts to counter cross-border crime was one of the topics of Sarafov’s meeting with Ortiz. After that, only the Bulgarian chief prosecutor made a statement, as his Spanish colleague is in the process of renewing his mandate and explained that he refrains from media statements.

He praised the high level of specialization of Spanish prosecutors, but also the attitude of people towards their work:

“What impressed us the most during our meetings during these three days is the trust in the Spanish public prosecutor’s office on the part of Spanish society. I am convinced that this trust is deserved. I hope that we, the Bulgarian prosecutor’s office, will achieve the same high standards and public trust”.

“The prosecutor’s office has exhausted its limit of mistakes,” said Sarafov and announced that he was ambitious – not only that she would not make any more mistakes, but also to win and regain her trust in society.
