Tegucigalpa, April 14, 2021.-. The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) today delivered a new donation for US $ 500 thousand for the Republic of Honduras, to be used in the care of the health emergency of COVID-19, as part of the support to its member countries.
CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, considers that the Bank’s efforts to address the pandemic have been forceful, “I am proud of how the Bank has responded in an agile and expeditious manner to the needs and challenges that this crisis has imposed on our member countries and support the government of the Republic of Honduras, meeting the different needs for financial resources derived from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
CABEI is committed to working with all the actors involved in containing the pandemic; In this way, with a joint and collective work, face the challenges to guarantee the acquisition of medical supplies.
In this sense, the head of CABEI indicated “It is essential to continue adding support to face the pandemic, to ensure the availability of resources for optimal care of the affected people, protect the economy and jobs.”
With this contribution, the amount of cooperation that CABEI has granted to Honduras in support of COVID-19 mitigation measures amounts to US $ 2.4 million.
These resources were delivered in a single disbursement to the Honduran Council of Private Enterprise (COHEP) in accordance with the agreement recently signed between CABEI and COHEP, to provide care to the population that attends the Stabilization Center for COVID-19 in Juan Paul II.
The donation will be used for the purchase of rapid COVID-19 diagnostic tests, oxygen service, clinical examinations and microbiology services; purchase of biosafety equipment for the Center’s health personnel (gowns, caps and disposable shoe covers, surgical gloves), among others.
The supervision of this second cooperation will be in charge of the CABEI Representation Office in Honduras, as in the first, and will be carried out in accordance with the rules and procedures established by the Bank for this purpose.
For his part, the President of COHEP, Engineer Juan Carlos Sikaffy, was very grateful for the confidence shown in the Private Sector to support the population of the Central District to face the Pandemic.
