“Join the NRW 3×3 Tour for Olympic-style basketball fun in Paderborn”

The name says it all, because “3×3” is the special form of basketball game on just one basket with three players per team, a mix of action, playfulness and team spirit. The initiators, the West German Basketball Association, the AOK Northwest, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the sports youth NRW offer a great supporting program in cooperation with the Paderborn Baskets and the Paderborn Sports Service.

“Basketball is very popular, it promotes stamina, coordination and team spirit. We want to get children and young people excited about sport and exercise with this tour,” explains AOK sales team leader Thomas Pottmeier, explaining the long-standing commitment of AOK Northwest to the NRW3x3Tour.

Last year, more than 4,300 players in around 1,000 teams came together and took part. The 3×3 variant of basketball is now an Olympic sport and was part of the Olympic basketball program for the first time at the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.

Registrations are now possible online (www.nrw-tour.de). Registration closes 24 hours before the start of the game. The game is played in different age groups with three active players (and one substitute) per team according to the current rules of the international basketball association FIBA. Young people and adults can play. School teams can be registered collectively by the school.

The participation fee is 20 euros per team. Registration for the NRW 3×3 FIBA costs 30 euros per team. In return, each player will receive the current 2023 Tour T-shirt with a high collector’s value. High-quality basketball products await the winning teams as prizes. There is also a special offer: School teams that take part in the tournament with five teams will receive a ball package with ten high-quality basketballs for physical education lessons.

“We are very pleased that we can implement this great sporting event here in Paderborn and give many children and young people the opportunity to compete in this competition and experience an eventful day of basketball,” says Jordi Perez, President of the Paderborn Baskets .

Tanja Schäfer, head of the Paderborn sports service, adds: “With the NRW 3×3 Tour, we have been able to bring a top event to Paderborn and hope for a great response. In particular, those who have not yet had any contact with basketball have a great opportunity to get a taste of it.”

From May 31st to June 18th, the tour will travel through Westphalia-Lippe with a dozen mobile basket systems. In addition to the well-known categories, a wheelchair basketball and a unified category are offered in Paderborn. “Basketball is an increasingly important sport for Special Olympics NRW. We are very pleased that five of our 3×3 athletes from North Rhine-Westphalia are taking part in the World Games in Berlin. We are happy to take this as an opportunity to make inclusive basketball better known. The tour stop in Paderborn will be a great start for the inclusive teams,” says Pia Horenkamp, Management of Special Olympics NRW.

The team that can assert itself in its age group is the city winner and finalist on June 18th at the traditional final location in Recklinghausen. All registration options and information about the NRW3x3Tour on the Internet at: www.nrw-tour.de
