“Join the Fight Against Cancer: Exceeding 70% Survival by 2030 with Todos Contra el Cáncer”

Cancer is the most important socio-sanitary problem in the world: 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will have cancer throughout their lives. In Spain there is a cancer diagnosis every 2 minutes and it is estimated that by 2030 there will be more than 330,000 new cases.

Currently, thanks to research, the survival rate in men is 55.3% and in women 61.7%. The goal is to exceed 70% in the year 2030 together with “Todos Contra el Cáncer”.

For this, the Spanish Association Against Cancer takes to the streets again this May 11, Cuestación Day, together with patients, volunteers, partners and all those who have supported the organization since its inception, to display its flag and request the collaboration of the whole society to promote cancer research and exceed 70% survival.

The traditional costación, which is held on the second Thursday of May each year, will have more than 3,000 tables spread throughout Spain and nearly 8,000 volunteers so that the whole of society can participate in the cause by contributing their donations and thus joining the “Todos contra el Cáncer” initiative.

Research that advances at the pace of the challenge posed by cancer in Spain

To achieve the goal of exceeding 70% survival in cancer, it is necessary to continue promoting cancer research and ensuring that patients have access to research results, favoring everyone to have access to the most innovative medicine and treatments. Above all, those types of cancer that have low or stagnant survival (ie, those with a 5-year survival rate is less than 30%).

Thanks to the support of the Spanish society, the Spanish Association Against Cancer has been promoting cancer research for more than 50 years, trying to respond to the great cancer challenges in our country and promoting the talent of researchers who today lead cancer research inside and outside our borders.

This impulse translates into an investment of 104 million euros in 565 development research grants, making the Association the social and private entity that allocates the most funds to cancer research and supports the most researchers.

In addition, with the express objective of exceeding 70% survival in 2030, the Spanish Association Against Cancer opens a new call for aid of 10 million euros, “70% Survival Challenge” to contribute to the research of those cancers that It will have a high impact on the increase in overall cancer survival, as are those with low or stagnant survival.

In 2022, the Association awarded 24.5 million to 195 new grants focused on the patient with the aim of continuing to increase survival in cancer and working so that all people can access research results.

The flag, a social symbol to exceed 70% survival

As it did last year, the Association once again takes its flag for walks in all corners of Spain, a symbol of the fight against cancer, with the support of relevant figures from the world of sports, cinema, music, and of social networks.

Ramón Reyes, president of the Association, Antonio Resines, Josep Pedrerol, Cristina del Valle, Paloma del Río, Belén Esteban, Carlos Alsina, Pedro J. Ramírez, Isabel Jiménez, Álvaro Benito, Javier Sardá, Antonio García Ferreras, Carlos Martínez, Lorenzo Milá, Fele Martínez, Mabel Lozano, Susana Guasch, Amaia Valdemoro and Eugenia Osborne, among others, have joined the cause and have signed the flag, thus joining “Todos Contra el Cáncer” with the aim of encouraging people to collaborate in the Cuestación to meet the challenge of exceeding 70% survival in cancer by the year 2030.

In Ceuta, on May 11, the Association will distribute five tables in different parts of the city from 09:30 to 14:00 approximately. These tables can be found at: Avenida Alcalde Sánchez Prados; Ravelin; Plaza de los Reyes; Azcarate Square; and hadu.

In addition, the Revellín table will reopen from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., for anyone who wishes to donate and was unable to in the morning. A new year we have the collaboration of different professional groups and entities, to whom we hereby thank, as well as our volunteer team. Without them none of this would be possible.
