What is the NYRR Midnight Run?
NYRR Midnight Run is a race organized by the New York Road Runner association. It takes place every year on December 31, in Central Park.
This 4-mile race, which is above all intended to be festive, begins at the stroke of midnight under the lights of New York fireworks.

Who is participating in this race?
The race is open to everyone, there are no particular restrictions.
Are you traveling to New York at this time? So, just register!! This race is above all a way to celebrate the transition to the new year in an original and inexpensive way. The time doesn’t matter, the fastest will take around twenty minutes and the most party people more than an hour 🙂 . The record being 18 min 11 for men (Stephen Furst, 2010) and 20 min 51 for women (Desiree Davila, 2010) but they are anecdotal because the race is intended to be festive above all!!
In addition to the race, there are many slightly offbeat competitions to win prizes and have fun all night long.

How to register for the Midnight Run?
You can register now! Registration is $60 for members of the New York Road Runner Association and $70 for non-members (preferential rates for seniors and children).
In addition to participation, the organization is offering you a New Balance long-sleeved t-shirt, as a souvenir of this unforgettable moment!! Nice, right?!

Where is the meeting place for the race?
If you have purchased your entry ticket, then head to the Central Park bandstand, south of 72nd Street Crossroads, to take your place alongside the other runners.
Remember, the first step is to find a costume before you go to the starting line. (on 72nd Street Crossroads near Bethesda Fountain).
If you are there to enjoy the race and bring back original souvenirs from your New York trip, I advise you to study the route to find your “spots” in order to best appreciate this race.
How does the NYRR Midnight Run work?
This race takes place in the heart of NYC in Central Park, and is preceded by dance performances from 10:00 p.m., competitions and even a costume parade at 11:00 p.m. At midnight, the race begins!
The race begins with the first explosion of fireworks announcing the start of the year 2024. And off we go 4 miles !!
Prizes to be won?
And yes, there are even prizes to be won!!!!
- 1st man and 1st woman win: $500!!!! And yes all the same.
- 2nd: $300
- 3rds: $200
- The first three men to arrive before 19 minutes and the first three women to arrive in 22:15 minutes win $100.
- If the winner beats the event record, he or she wins a $100 bonus!

What is the route of the NYRR Midnight Run?
We start by heading east, then turn left onto East Drive and head north. In the first mile, prepare for a 2,000-foot climb to Cat Hill.
A friendly bronze statue will welcome you a few hundred meters beyond the first mile. It’s that of Fred Lebow, the legendary founder of the New York Marathon.
The loop continues with a “bubbles” stop at the second mile, because we don’t forget that it’s New Year 😉 Then, head south to reach the finish…
