Set up by Barack Obama in 2012, “September en Or” is struggling to make itself known in France. This month is dedicated to raising awareness of childhood cancer. In Dammartin-en-Goële, the gendarmes association “Les 40 roarants” has decided to organize a 24-hour relay race, Saturday October 7, 2023.
The start will be given at 10 a.m.… until the next morning at Jesse Owens Stadium. Objective: to raise funds forassociation “All with Clément”created after the death of young Clément in September 2006 following pediatric cancer.
His mother, and founding president of the association, Lucie Fagedet, hopes that thanks to this type of event, we can learn more about pediatric cancers. “I believe it is time to join forces, for everyone to be aware and talk about it. I know that many people are devastated by this disease, it is time that we highlight this great fight,” declares the president.
“A joyful spirit for a noble cause”
The funds will be donated to the pediatric department of the Gustave Roussy Institute in Villejuif (Val-de-Marne). The runners will have the difficult task of collecting as much money as possible.
In addition to the runners, several associations will be present, with various centers of interest such as dancing, outdoor activities, catering, and a refreshment bar. A lantern march will take place on Saturday at 9 p.m., around Jesse Owens Stadium. “We want to establish a joyful spirit for a cause that is very dear to us,” adds Lucie Fagedet.
Helping the lives of sick children
“We write smoking kills on the cigarette floors, but for our children nothing is done,” retorts Lucie Fagedet, who is trying to change the situation with this operation. The grant will help the pediatric department and therefore the children to improve their living conditions in the hospital.
“We will finance activities for them in the service. We go there one Saturday a month to entertain them and at the same time, it will help our project with the Dijon association An’nomade. Its goal is to bring several animals into the service and to offer activities with the children every quarter.
