London, May 18 (EFE).- The British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, promised this Wednesday in Parliament to “study all the necessary measures” in order to help the citizens of the United Kingdom with the difficulties posed by the increase in cost of living

In the weekly session of questions to the Prime Minister in the House of Commons, the Conservative leader promised that he will analyze ways to help the public at a time when British inflation stood at 9% in April, the highest level reached in 40 years.

For his part, the leader of the opposition Labor Party, Keir Starmer, urged Johnson to support his formation’s plan to introduce a “Windfall tax”, a system to control windfall profits from oil and gas companies after having voted in against the Tory Party.

In response, Johnson replied that “this country and the world are facing problems in the cost of energy due, in part, to covid-19 and partially due to the war in Ukraine of (Russian President, Vladimir) Putin”.

The chief executive also pointed out that “we know and have always known that there will be a cost in the short term to withdraw from Putin’s hydrocarbons, and to sanction the Russian economy.”

“Everyone in this (lower) House voted in favor of those sanctions. We knew it would be tough, but I want to say that if we give in, and don’t stick to this, it would ultimately bring greater economic risk,” he added. EFE
