The company paid billions of dollars in compensation during judicial disputes
Johnson & Johnson has decided to stop selling its core product, Johnson Powder, to children in the United States and Canada.
The health-care giant is facing thousands of lawsuits from consumers who claim that these company’s products have caused cancer.
The move comes after years of legal disputes that obligated Johnson & Johnson to pay billions of dollars in compensation.
The company has constantly defended the safety of its products.
And announced that it will stop in the coming months sales of the product, which constitutes about 0.5 percent of its trade in the United States, with retailers continue to sell the existing stock.
The company faces more than 16,000 consumer protection lawsuits, claiming that the company’s “talc” products are contaminated with asbestos, the known carcinogen.
The company said that Johnson’s baby powder demand declined in North America due to what it described as changing consumer habits and misleading about product safety. She faced a “constant barrage” of lawyers representing clients to sue the company.
She confirmed her firm confidence in Johnson’s baby powder. And that “decades of neutral scientific studies by medical experts around the world” support the safety of their products.
The company said the move is part of a re-evaluation of its products after the Corona pandemic crisis.
The company announced in October that the test result for baby powder was asbestos-free. And tests conducted by the US Food and Drug Administration revealed small quantities.
The company is appealing the case against a judgment issued against it in 2018 to pay $ 4.7 billion in compensation to twenty-two women, who claimed that these products caused uterine cancer.
