Johnson did not break the rules of conduct with a luxury vacation in 2019

London, Jul 8 (EFE) .- British Prime Minister Boris Johnson did not violate the rules of conduct when enjoying a luxury vacation on the island of Mustique in 2019, according to an investigation carried out by the parliamentary commission of Standards of this country.

The conservative leader was investigated for allegedly breaking the parliamentary code of conduct in relation to the financing of a trip he made with his now wife, Carrie Symmonds, to the Caribbean during Christmas two years ago.

Johnson and Symmonds traveled to Mustique, a private island in the Grenadines, after the Conservative victory in the general election that year, on a trip valued at 15,000 pounds (about 17,486 euros).

Although the aforementioned commission exempted him, as he indicated today, from having breached the rules of conduct, he criticized him for not having explained “promptly” how those vacations were paid for in the face of the confusion generated by their financing.

According to the findings of the Standards committee, the accounts presented by Johnson were “accurate and complete” although it was deemed “regrettable” that Johnson did not provide a “full explanation” earlier.

The prime minister initially indicated that the accommodation on the island had been paid for by the co-founder of the company Carphone Warehouse David Ross, who later clarified that he had taken care of ‘facilitating’ said accommodation for Johnson.

After the investigation, the aforementioned parliamentary commission concluded that Ross had donated the accommodation but that the way to carry out this process had been “informal” and it did not appear that he had given “full explanations” in this regard to the prime minister.

“This matter could have ended many months ago if more strenuous efforts had been made to dispel the uncertainty,” the committee said. EFE
