Johnson has caused a storm of outrage among the public and politicians, accusing him and his staff of failing to comply with the restrictions of the pandemic by socializing at a time when it was banned.
Some members of the Johns Conservative Party have said he should resign as prime minister if the outrage continues.
“I want to apologize. Looking back, I had to send everyone back to the premises, ”Johnson told lawmakers in the House of Representatives.
The House of Representatives Prime Minister’s Question Session was the first time Johnson had appeared before the May 2020 Downing Garden Festival.
The prime minister said there were signs of remorse, but he also urged awaiting the findings of an investigation into allegations of several of his staff’s pandemic scores by senior official Sue Gray.
Opposition Labor leader Cairo Starmer said Johnson’s statement was “a pathetic show for someone who got out of the way”.
“His justification for not knowing it was a ball is so ridiculous that it has really offended British society,” Starmer said.
“He was finally forced to admit what everyone knew, that when the whole country was closed, he had a drink on Downing Street. Will he do what is right now and step down? ” asked the Labor leader.
The Downing Street scandal is another point on Johnson’s long list of problems.
The scandal, called the “party gate”, has become the most serious crisis in two and a half years of Johnson’s rule.
During Britain’s first archery, which began in March 2020 and lasted more than two months, almost all gatherings were banned.
Millions of people were separated from friends and families, and even visiting dying relatives in hospitals was forbidden.
Police fined thousands for violating the ban on assembly.
