Bamberg. His company Thomann – Management recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. He invited to the celebration in the historic Hall of Mirrors of the Harmonie Halls in Bamberg. Many friends, supporters, politicians and celebrities were invited, including an editor from Blick.de. It quickly became clear that this would be a top-class event. Being successful in the event industry for 50 years is quite an achievement. The story about the maker Johnny Thomann and the history of the company read like a Hollywood screenplay. There were many greetings and live music from Bernhard Brink, Daniela Alfinito, Art Garfunkel Junior and, as a surprise guest, Mrs. Wäber, who shone with her sense of humour. A very special moment was the presentation of the SMAGO award by Schlagertitan Bernhard Brink. There were greetings on a large video wall, the artists Andy Borg, GGAnderson, Die Amigos, Die Paldauer and Fantasy wished the whole team all the best.

Even as a child, music played a major role in his life, he gained his first experiences from the radio. The music broadcasts, especially from Radio Luxembourg, were literally devoured. At some point he wanted to see more of the stars he heard on the radio live and, of course, hear them. This unmistakable story began at the age of 17. It quickly became clear: he wanted to work in the events industry, his children’s room became an office and what was then the communications center became the town’s telephone booth, to the annoyance of many who wanted to make their calls there. As a DJ, he liked to put on good music and got confirmation, but he also found happiness as the manager of various cover bands.

Whether in the hit parade, “Disco” or “Musikladen” or live in concert halls, the list of artists is long with names such as Roland Kaiser, Peter Maffay, Udo Jürgens, Die Kastelruther Spatzen, Howard Carpendale, Drafi Deutscher, Die Flippers, Andrea Berg, Bonnie Tyler, Freddy Quinn, Bony M., STS, Chris de Bourgh, Nazareth, Slade, Smokie, Olaf Schubert, Adel Tawil, Heinz Rudolf Kunze, Kerstin Ott, The Tremelos, Manowar, Motorhead, Suzi Quatro, Florian Silbereisen, Alphaville, Silbermond and We are heroes, worked or still work with him.

It was an exciting time after November 9, 1989 for everyone, but especially for organizers. Johnny Thomann fondly remembers the first concert back then in what was still East Germany, in Hoyerswerda. “Die Paldauer” from Austria were “committed”, no, at Thomann there were never any big contracts: one man one word and that’s still the case today. The musicians “Die Paldauer” are still proud to be a part of this musical history.

Whether in Aue, Coswig, Freiberg, Chemnitz, Hoyerswerda, Löbau, Limbach-Oberfrohna , Marienberg, Oschatz, Riesa and Zwickau, thousands of visitors every year appreciate these concerts. The special thing about “Thomann” is that they have developed their own ticket system and it is well received. Of course, such a success story only works in a team and that the boss has formed in recent years, including his sons Tobias and Stephan Thomann, Stephan will then take over the baton from his father in the summer of 2023.
