American singer Johnny Nash has died in his hometown of Houston. He was best known for the song I Can See Clearly Now from 1972. Nash turned 80 years old.
His most famous hit hit No. 1 in the US for four weeks and sold over a million copies. It was covered by Ray Charles, but also by Lee Towers.
Nash first sang pop and later reggae. He was friends with Bob Marley and helped him get started in his career. Nash later had a hit with his cover of Marley’s song Stir it Up.
Nash has also acted in films and television series and was a producer. His health had deteriorated and he died of natural causes, his son told AP news agency.
