It is Véronique, a fan of singer Johnny Hallyday, who triggered the orange button Alert us this Monday morning to tell us about the discovery she made with her mother last Friday. “I was discussing with my mom when she told me that the grave of Johnny Hallyday’s father, Léon Smet was going to be abandoned in the Schaerbeek cemetery. Incredulous, I went to the place where I indeed found that a sign had been placed and the concession expired on December 31, 2020 “, tells us Véronique. “A shock” for this fan of Johnny who speculates that the rocker was the last member of the family who, in 2005, had renewed the concession of his father, Schaerbeek, who died on November 8, 1989.

The famous rocker having died on December 5, 2017, Véronique fears to see the tomb of the father of her favorite singer disappear from now on.

Contacted by us, the municipal cemetery section of the civil status of Schaerbeek, confirms this information to us which is visible on the concession itself. And to reveal to us that the dealer has been informed, without revealing its identity: “It is in the domain of private life”, justifies us the municipality.

In general, in this case, the person contacted has two choices:

– Do nothing and let the municipality remove the monument when it is due.

– Extend the concession by 15 years for an amount of 780 euros.

A legal deadline has been set until May. Afterwards, the municipality of Schaerbeek will make the necessary arrangements depending on the decision communicated by the concessionaire. “Either you will see the work begin, or nothing will change”, explains the registrar.

“In some cases, the municipality could make the decision to protect the monument that represents the tomb. But the decision must be taken during a vote presented to the college”. And our interlocutor to specify: “But we’re not at that point at all yet … “
