Johnny Depp will come to the Karlovy Vary festival

“Johnny Depp will be at the festival in its second half,” they said, waiting for the last moments to confirm his participation.

The award of the President of the Karlovy Vary IFF, to which the Karlovy Vary Festival annually awards domestic filmmakers, will then be taken over by the director, Oscar winner Jan Svěrák, at the closing ceremony of the 55th KV IFF.

On Thursday, August 26, at 4 pm, he will also personally present the film The Ride, which won the Crystal Globe for Best Film at the 30th Karlovy Vary IFF in 1995, at a gala performance at the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theater.

“Honza chose the film himself,” said festival president Jiří Bartoška.

Jury in four

Eva Mulvad from Denmark will chair the main festival jury at the 55th KV IFF. She entered international consciousness in 2006 with the film Enemies of Happiness, for which she won the Silver Wolf Award at the IDFA Documentary Festival and one of the main awards at the Sundance Film Festival.

The main jury will have only four members in covid times.

The end with Klícka

The festival will end with the film Klícka (2020) starring Judo Law, which will go to Czech cinemas under the banner of KVIFF Distribution shortly after the festival.

The 55th KV IFF will take place untraditionally from 20 to 28 August. “We deliberately moved the date of the festival to August. We hoped that more people would be vaccinated and that we would be able to fully occupy Karlovy Vary’s film halls, “said Kryštof Mucha, the event’s executive director.
