Actor Johnny Depp reiterated his testimony on Wednesday during the lawsuit he filed against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Johnny Depp was questioned for several hours on Tuesday evening by his lawyer in the defamation case he has brought against his ex-wife Amber Heard, and in which he is demanding $50 million in damages. Then he told that he ‘never hit Heard’and that it was a “complete shock” to learn of the “horrific and disturbing” allegations made by his ex-wife.
Also on Wednesday, he continued to deny that he had used violence, and told in detail about their quarrels. “She described me as an idiot. That always escalated into a fight. In the beginning you still defend yourself. But if that keeps escalating… I couldn’t get a word in. It was a barrage, an endless stream of insults. I had a hard time dealing with that. I wasn’t allowed to have my own voice.’
According to Depp, that resulted in depression. ‘Some people simply look for the weaknesses and sensitivities in other people. And when you told them your life – as it happens in relationships – that became ammunition for her. Mrs. Heard used everything I’d ever told her in such quarrels. About my children… that was unnecessary. Many boundaries were crossed, until you couldn’t even see them anymore. My only ambition in life was to be a great father to my children. She regularly took advantage of that, she regularly told me what a bad father I was.’
Violence
“With so much hatred and anger, I was sure it would escalate into violence. And that happened very often,” said Depp. In her frustration and anger she lashed out. That could start with a blow, with a push, with throwing a remote at my head, or with a glass of wine in my face. Whenever it escalated, I would go back to what I was taught as a child: to remove myself from the situation so it couldn’t go on. For example, I locked myself in the bathroom. In places she couldn’t go. That happened constantly.’
In an argument in Australia, where Depp Pirates of the Carribean 5 Depp had to receive medical attention after Heard threw a bottle of vodka at him that collided with his hand. “When I looked down, I saw that the tip of my finger had been hit. I saw my bone sticking out, from the inside of my finger. The blood gushed out.’
Depp also showed a photo of him in the emergency room getting care of his finger. ‘I now also see a detail that I had forgotten: Mrs. Heard had taken my cigarette from an ashtray and put it on my face. I see that now.’
‘Didn’t want to fail’
Then why did he stay with Heard? “That’s a very complicated answer,” Depp said. “It has no doubt to do with my father, who remained stoic when my mother hit him. No doubt it has to do with the fact that I had a great relationship with Vanessa for 14 years (Paradis, red.), the mother of my children. And I didn’t want to fail. I thought I could help her because that wasn’t the Amber Heard I’d known for the first year and a half of our relationship. And because I didn’t want to hurt anyone—especially Mrs. Heard. I didn’t want to break her heart.’
Depp then told about his mother’s suicide attempt after his father left her. “Mrs. Heard had already talked about suicide several times, so that became a factor as well. Sometimes when I was leaving, she would stop me at the elevator screaming and crying: “I can’t live without you”.’
