Johnny Depp removed from Pirates of the Caribbean over Amber Heard allegations

Depp accuses his ex-wife of making false statements in an op-ed about domestic violence published in 2018 by The Washington Post newspaper. Heard stated in it that she was the victim of domestic violence. She did not mention Depp by name, but the latter believes that the opinion piece damages his image and so he demands 50 million dollars.

Depp states that four days after her opinion piece was published, he was told by production company Walt Disney Pictures that he would no longer play the role of Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates of the Caribbean’- reeks.

Why that decision was made has not been disclosed. “But I think it has to do with the allegations that Amber has made,” said manager Christian Carino on the tenth day of the trial. It is common practice in the industry, where lawsuits often have a negative impact on individuals, he said in a video message.

“My view is that Amber’s allegations had the most dramatic impact on his reputation.” Carino said he spoke with several film directors, including Jerry Bruckheimer, a producer of Pirates of the Caribbean† According to Carino, he didn’t explicitly say that Heard’s accusations were the reason he wasn’t allowed to act in the sixth film, but that he said it was clear from the context.

Carino has represented both Depp and Heard. Neither of them ever discussed abuse with him, he testified.

Heard’s attorneys deny that there is a causal relationship between the allegations and Walt Disney Pictures’ decision. They refer to the problems that existed when running the fifth Pirates-movie. It was during those recordings in Australia that Depp lost his fingertip after an argument with Heard.

Also shown on the tenth day of the trial was a video testimony from Alejandro Romero, doorman at the LA building where the police were called to an argument between Heard and Depp just days before the divorce filing in May 2016. Romero was not at work that evening, but did see Heard up close a few days later.

The actress and a friend then told him they thought someone had tried to break into her apartment because the door was scratched. Romero’s testimony about this made Depp and the courtroom audience laugh. “In my head I thought: you think someone is trying to get into your apartment with scratches ten centimeters above the floor?” According to the doorman, it was clear that the dog had simply scribbled on the door. “They were so scared. They asked me to enter and check room by room. I did that, it’s part of my job.”

Heard’s lawyers repeatedly asked Romero if he noticed any injuries at the time, or makeup that would hide them. Time and again he emphasized that he wasn’t paying special attention, but that he would have seen and remembered it if she had any injuries. He said he didn’t check to see if her “eyelashes were odd” and said he couldn’t even remember what he ate for breakfast.

The man made it clear that he had had enough of the interrogation. He said “ugh, I’m so stressed about this, I don’t want anything to do with this anymore”, started smoking his e-cigarette and driving around in the car in which he made his statement. He had also admitted that he had not looked at the timeline documents: “I want to be honest. I didn’t want to watch them, it’s been so long, I just wanted to be done with it. Everyone has their problems.” That, too, made Depp laugh.

Afterwards, Heard’s lawyer said this was “the most bizarre testimony” ever. The judge admitted she had never seen anything like it.

Johnny Depp himself seemed to have lost his interest in the process. After he had already made a drawing on Tuesday that he showed to his lawyer, he was coloring drawings with a purple and pink marker on Wednesday.

Officers saw no abuse

On the tenth day of the trial, LAPD agents who had been summoned after the row in May 2016, a few days before Heard filed for divorce, also spoke again on the tenth day and demanded a restraining order with a bruise on her face because Depp allegedly attacked her that night. . Both Officer Tyler Hadden and Officer William Gatlin confirmed what their colleague had stated on trial day nine: They saw no evidence of intimate partner violence.

According to Hadden, it appeared to be a verbal dispute, Heard had no visible injuries, refused medical attention and did not want a PV. The actress was red in the face, but it just looked like she had cried. “Seeing someone with rosy cheeks and pink eyes doesn’t mean anything happened. They may be sad because their dog has died.” Hadden also said it “is not against the law to argue; I quarrel with my wife”.

Gatlin said Heard didn’t seem like a victim of domestic violence. Although Depp was no longer present, she declined to make a statement to the officers. They saw no injuries or damage. Bodycam footage showed the officers asking Heard if she was okay, and Heard replied in the affirmative.
