American actor Johnny Depp has to leave the ‘Fantastic beasts’ film series after losing his ‘libel trial’.

The Warner Bros. film studio has asked him to leave the film series, Depp says on Instagram. “I respect their request and have agreed.”
In the films – prequels to the Harry Potter series – he plays the evil wizard Grindelwald.
The actor confirms that he is appealing against ‘the surreal decision of the British court’. Depp had the British tabloid The Sun and his reporter, Dan Wootton, charged with libel. Wootton had described Depp in April 2018 as a ‘wife-beater’ – a man who mistreats his wife – in an article about Depp’s divorce with Amber Heard. Depp then went to court. The judge in London ruled last week that the content of the article in The Sun was correct and that Depp’s complaint is therefore unfounded.
Earlier protests broke out about Depp’s choice for the ‘Fantastic beasts’ series. Depp then had to answer for domestic violence in divorce proceedings with Amber Heard, who eventually dropped her complaint after reaching an agreement with Depp.
