American actor Johnny Depp, who had sued British tabloid The Sun for defamation because the newspaper accused him of assaulting his now ex-wife, plans to appeal the verdict that dismissed his charges. His lawyers announced this on Monday.

“The judge’s verdict is as perverse as it is baffling,” the lawyers of the actor, known for the “Pirate of the Caribbean” film series, said in a statement. “The judgment is so flawed it would be ludicrous if Mr. Depp did not appeal this decision,” they added.
