“Johnny Depp and Mark Wahlberg Turned Down Role in ‘Ocean’s Eleven’, says George Clooney”

CelebritiesNo Matt Damon in ‘Ocean’s Eleven’, but Johnny Depp or Mark Wahlberg? It had been a possibility. According to George Clooney, one of the protagonists of the film, both Depp and Wahlberg turned down the role of Lines Caldwell.

“Several well-known people have told us to get out. Just think of Mark Wahlberg and Johnny Depp, but there were others as well,” said George Clooney in an interview with Entertainment Weekly at the TCM Classic Film Festival in Los Angeles. “Although they have now deeply regretted that.”

Less convincing needed

George Clooney appeared on the red carpet of the event along with Steven Soderbergh, the director of ‘Ocean’s Eleven’. It has also been 22 years since the film was released. The print was shown for the first time in the cinemas in December 2001. This was followed by ‘Ocean’s Twelve’ (2004) and ‘Ocean’s Thirteen’ (2007).

Clooney himself played the role of Danny Ocean in the picture. In addition, he could count on the company of a handful of great actors. Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Andy Garcia and Casey Affleck can also be seen in the film. According to the American actor, they needed just a little less convincing. “Steven had just finished ‘Erin Brockovich’ and ‘Traffic’, so people were looking forward to working with him.”
