John Williams puts ‘egocentric’ man in place in HMMIK: ‘Isn’t it aso?!’

In ‘Help, My Husband is a handyman!’ Women regularly pass by who are close to despair and this evening is no different: Annechien has been camping with her family for years in their own house in Middelburg. She is sick and tired of it, but her husband Ricardo thinks it’s all right. He prefers to spend time on his hobbies and especially thinks that his wife should not ‘nag’ like that. When John Williams and his DIY team drop by, Ricardo is put in his place for a while.

“You only think about yourself”

Annechien, Ricardo and their youngest son Levi have been living in a handyman’s house for three years now. The house is beautiful, the location is nice, but inside it doesn’t really go smoothly. Although the living room is completely finished, the upper floor and the hall still leave something to be desired. According to Annechien, there is one simple reason for this: her husband simply does not feel like it. “In his spare time, he mainly watches television and series. He apparently finds other things more important.”

According to Annechien, it also makes no sense to sit behind his pants. The more she asks, the less he does. Son Levi also finds that his mother should not ask anything. “If my mom says something, it immediately becomes an issue. Then he says: ‘If it continues like this, I won’t do anything.'” What bothers Annechien is that he no longer feels like doing odd jobs, but does not want to outsource it at the same time. “He has a certain plan and if it doesn’t go according to his idea, he will be locked.”

Fortunately, Ricardo appears to be open to the help of John Williams and his team. Although he does not always find Annechien’s expectations realistic. “You can’t expect me to work until 11 am after work. I also just want to have my sports moments.” Especially the latter turns out to be important for Ricardo: when he has to do odd jobs, 9 times out of 10 he chooses to go cycling or surfing.

This time, however, he is unlucky: because John is after him quite a bit. In a conversation with Annechien and Ricardo he does not ignore it. He points out to the couple that they simply have the budget to outsource everything, but still ask for help from the program. “Is it your concern that it is now free?”, he wonders. Both Ricardo and Annechien assure John that this is not the case. According to Annechien, Ricardo is simply not open to outside help. “So you just stop it all,” John notes. “Isn’t that aso or not? You just think only about yourself. It’s selfish, it’s all about me. It’s not social.”

Although Ricardo is not exactly happy with John’s sermon, he still puts his weight behind it and not without result: when the house is completely finished, Annechien cannot believe her eyes.
