The house of Mieke and Gert-Jan is one to remember. There is a remarkable surprise in every corner. For example, there is a gigantic wardrobe right through the living room and a sink in the bedroom takes up half the room. In addition, it also appears to be fully equipped. The two have a jacuzzi, a sauna and a swimming pool. John can’t believe his eyes when he gets a tour of the house for the first time: “I don’t know what I see!” he exclaims in disbelief.

He soon finds out that the house could also use a good cleaning. Mieke seems to have given up the household completely. “I’m not going to wipe windows if the ceiling is half off,” she explains. When John gently tries to tell her that the house is really very dirty, she immediately puts her hand into her own bosom. “You can say I’m a pervert.” John explains to her it goes much further than that. “It’s not healthy to live like this either. It’s sticky everywhere and I smell cat urine. It’s a crazy house. The weirdest house I’ve ever seen.”

It soon becomes apparent that Gert-Jan is also having a hard time with the fact that his wife’s health has deteriorated considerably. “She has had health problems for ten years. Her intestines are really bad and she has diabetes,” he sobbed. When John asks him what he is afraid of, it becomes too much for him. “That I end up alone. Every now and then I come down and then I see if she’s still alive.”

It is clear to John that the two could use his help. His DIY team therefore starts work on the house in good spirits and Gert-Jan helps where he can. Because there is still so much to do, the team focuses on one part of the house, namely the front room, which should actually be a living room. Because it is also important for Mieke’s health that the house is really well cleaned, John also calls in a cleaning team. This ensures that the house is completely fresh and fruity at the end of the week. And not only that: to top it all off, the new living room will also be furnished from head to toe with new furniture. Both Mieke and Gert-Jan can’t believe their eyes when they see their new home.
