The line between film and series is starting to blur further with the arrival of streaming services. Recently appeared with Fear Street on Netflix a kind of film series consisting of three parts. Now it seems that the John Wick franchise is also taking a similar approach for the spin-off The Continental.
It becomes clear through The Hollywood Reporter that The Continental will be a three-part miniseries and the episodes will have a running time of a movie.
The budget of the triptych will be about $60 million and that is roughly equal to the budget of John Wick on John Wick: Chapter 2 together. Incidentally, we do not see John Wick in the series.
Director known for The Continental
It is Albert Hughes (The Book of Eli) who directs the first and third parts of The Continental which looks at the hotel that serves as a safe haven for hitmen and other criminals. The series is set in the 1970s.
“What we explore in The Continental is young Winston and how he and his henchmen start the hotel we first got to see in the movie franchise 40 years later,” Lionsgate television boss Kevin Beggs told Deadline.
The series should appear on the American channel Starz. Work is also underway on Chapter 4 on Chapter 5 around John Wick and the spin-off movie Ballerina. A crossover with movies like Atomic Blonde on Nobody seems not excluded.
