John Obi Mikel Reveals Chelsea Anecdotes: Eto’o vs De Bruyne Fight and Salah’s Tears

John Obi Mikel has spoken about his long spell at Chelsea. The former midfielder told juicy anecdotes such as a fight between Samuel Eto’o and Kevin De Bruyne, or the tears of Mohamed Salah after an argument with José Mourinho.

Between 2006 and 2017, John Obi Mikel played 372 matches (for 6 goals and 13 assists) with Roman Abramovich’s Chelsea. The former Nigerian international has piled up trophies but also collected memories. He dropped some juicy anecdotes in the podcast « The Obi One »where he was a guest alongside John Terry.

“We saw that Salah was crying”

“I remember when Samuel Eto’o faced him and they fought on the training pitch simply because the Belgian wasn’t putting in the effort Samuel Eto’o expected”, said the former player. And to specify: “He would come to practices and, probably because he wasn’t playing much, he would always have his head down, constantly looking angry and sulking. He was like a kid on the playground that no one wanted to play with. »

Obi Mikel also explained how José Mourinho managed his players. The Portuguese did not spare them: “If you didn’t do your job, it didn’t matter who you were, Mourinho would take you to task. Once he confronted Mohamed Salah at half-time and we saw he was crying”he added in particular.

Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah have something in common in not having succeeded with the Blues. The Belgian international defended the London colors between 2012 and 2014 (with several loans), while Mohamed Salah was under contract between 2014 and 2016. The two players were respectively transferred to Wolfsburg and Roma, where they revived before returning to the Premier League, where they finally exploded. De Bruyne is the heyday of Manchester City, and Salah of Liverpool.
