“Leopoldštate” in the Daile Theater
In the rehearsal hall of the Daile Theater, work is underway on the production of the world-famous actor and director John Malkovich’s production “Leopoldstadt”. John Malkovich has chosen to stage the latest play “Leopoldstadt” by the famous British playwright Sir Tom Stoppard at the Daile Theater.
It is the saga of a Jewish family that is intertwined in the events and experiences of 50 years. “Leopoldstadt” boldly examines what it means to be different – a stranger among strangers, not only in one’s own eyes, but also in the eyes of others. It asks questions about history – how to preserve one’s roots, how to protect one’s self-confidence, how to survive for a small nation when the world has gone crazy? John Malkovich’s new production will premiere at the Daile Theater on September 15, which will also be the opening event of the 104th season of the Daile Theatre.
The director of the play in the Daile Theater creates the production by uniting an international creative team. Director – John Malkovich, set designer – Pierre-François Limbosch, costume designer – Brigit Hutter, composer – Timofey Pastukhov, lighting designer – Mārtiņš Jansons, assistant director – Diāna Kaijak, scenographer’s assistants – Rudolfs Bekić, Sintija Jēkabsone, costume designer’s assistant – Jurate Silakaktiņa, translation consultant – Lolita Thomsone, the play was translated from English by Laila Burāne.
A large cast of Daile Theater plays the roles in the play. Currently, the youngest stage artists are also involved in the rehearsal process, who will play several children’s roles in the show.
