John Lennon’s eldest son, Julian, broke his oath to never perform his father’s song “Imagine”.
“The war in Ukraine is an indescribable tragedy. As a person, I feel obliged to react in the most adequate way possible. That is why today, after so many years, I will sing my father’s song” Imagine “, he wrote in the YouTube video.
“Why do I do it after all these years? I’ve always said I would sing ‘Imagine’ only if the end of the world came.”
“The song is about the light at the end of the tunnel – what we all hope for.”
The performance took place during the “Stand for Ukraine” concert, which was also attended by Bono, Madonna, Elton John, Miley Cyrus, Billy Isle and others.
More than $ 10 million has been raised in support of Ukrainian refugees, Deadline reports.
“Imagine” was released in 1971 and was included on Lennon’s debut solo album of the same name. It is dedicated to the Vietnam War.
Julian is the son of John by his first wife Cynthia, who died in 2015.
He started his music career when he was 19 with the album Valotte, the first of 6 albums. He is also involved in the production of films and books on ecology.
