New York. The top of New York’s Empire State Building was illuminated in blue in honor of the musician John Lennon, who was murdered in 1980 and would have turned 80 on Friday. In addition, a peace sign could be seen on the building on Friday night, the operators said. Lennon had made music history as a singer for the Beatles and later solo.
Born in 1940 in Liverpool, Great Britain, the musician was shot dead in front of his apartment building in New York’s Central Park on December 8, 1980.
John Lennon’s son Sean attended the light ceremony in memory of his father.

John Lennon’s son finds it difficult to listen to his songs
45-year-old Sean Ono Lennon said in a recent interview that he was deeply touched when he heard his father’s old songs. “It’s hard for me to even think about it, let alone listen to some of it, especially the later stuff, because I have so many memories of how you (the solo album) did“ Double Fantasy ”and some of that stuff just break my heart because … it’s like a time machine, ”he told the British newspaper“ Express ”.
Sean Ono Lennon’s mother is the Japanese artist Yoko Ono.
