LOS ANGELES (AP) — Let the office debates begin: John Krasinski is People magazine‘s 2024 “Sexiest Man Alive.”
The publication announced the casting of the actor, writer and director Tuesday night on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
Krasinski starred in “The Office” before launching the “A Quiet Place” franchise and starring in the action series “Jack Ryan.” In an interview with the magazine, he joked that he hopes his wife, actress Emily Blunt, keeps her promise to wallpaper their house with the cover.
The 45-year-old actor, who takes over from Patrick Dempsey, told People that his immediate reaction was “just a mental blackout. “Zero thoughts.” He also thought it might be a joke, he added.
He rose to fame playing the gangly, lanky Jim in the American version of the mockumentary “The Office,” and transformed into a sleek, muscular action star in Amazon’s “Jack Ryan,” where he plays Tom Clancy, a character which had already been made into a film by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck. He also co-wrote, directed and starred in “A Quiet Place,” which has become a three-film franchise, and created the short-lived but wildly popular web series “Some Good News” during the pandemic.
At the beginning of the year he released his sixth work as a director, “IF”, a film about imaginary friends in which Blunt also participated.
The couple has two daughters.
Krasinski told People in the issue hitting newsstands Friday that the honor will likely spark jokes at home.
“I think it’s going to make me do more housework,” he joked.
Now in its 40th year, the magazine’s first “Sexiest Man Alive” was Mel Gibson. Winners include Brad Pitt, George Clooney, John F. Kennedy Jr., David Beckham, Michael B. Jordan, John Legend, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Rudd and Pierce Brosnan.
