Despite not winning any Grand Slam and never having entered the top 5 of the ranking ATP, John Isner can proudly say that his career was legendary. Well, it still is, since he’ll put an end to it after the US Open.

Isner’s Last Dance
Isner, currently ranked 158 in the world, has only managed to win eight games this season. Therefore, he chose the US Open to end his career.
The native of Dallas, Texas, has been a professional for 17 years, and is the tennis player with the most aces in history. With 14,411 direct serves, he leaves Ivo Karlovic and Roger Federer in the last two places on the podium.
Along with that, he also played the longest match on record. At Wimbledon 2010, for the first round, he faced Nicolás Mahut for 11 hours and five minutes. He went 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 7-6 and 70-68 for his rival.
“After 17 years on the circuit, it is time to say goodbye. This transition will not be easy, but I look forward to enjoying every second with my amazing family. The US Open will be my last tournament,” Isner said in a statement.
Isner’s best Grand Slam performance was in 2018, at Wimbledon. After more than seven hours of battle against Kevin Anderson, he fell in the semifinals. After that duel, the British tournament changed its rules in the way of breaking off duels.
