Jannik Sinner (ATP 13/N.10) beat in three rounds the American John Isner (ATP 24 / N.20) in the 3rd round of Wimbledon, Friday on the grass of the court N.2 of the All England Club. The 20-year-old Italian won 6-4, 7-6 (4), 6-3 after 2:20 of play.
The American will be able to console himself by becoming the record holder for the number of aces scored on the circuit, a category counted since 1991. Isner, 37 and Wimbledon semi-finalist in 2018, overtook the Croatian Ivo Karlovic (13,728 aces ). The 2m08 server, author of 36 aces in the 2nd round against Andy Murray, will still have the opportunity to increase his lead in this particular ranking, where Roger Federer is in 3rd place (11,478 aces).
In the round of 16, Jannik Sinner will face Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 7/N.5) in an enticing duel between two players from the new wave. Alcaraz, 19 and quarter-finalist at Roland-Garros, easily won against the German Oscar Otte (ATP 28 / N.32) with the score 6-3, 6-1, 6-2 after 1h38 game only.
This will be the second duel between the two players on the circuit, the Spaniard having won the first during the Masters 1000 in Paris at the end of last season.
