John Deere: 80 million euros for tractor production in Mannheim – company

The agricultural machinery manufacturer John Deere has put the new painting system into operation at its factory in Mannheim.

According to Deere, the fully automatic coloring system is driving forward the modernization of tractor production in Mannheim. The investment is a commitment to environmental protection and to the global US company’s largest location outside North America.

John Deere has invested more than 80 million euros in the further development of final assembly in Mannheim, and the painting system is an important part of this. It is also a step towards a climate-neutral factory. According to the company, the new system with appropriate thermal insulation and modern technology such as heat pumps is the first Deere building in operation with the highest energy efficiency level KfW 40. According to the company, exhaust gas afterburning significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

The solar cells on 3,600 square meters on the roof of the new building can generate up to 800,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year for internal use.

Over 5000 employees in the greater region

John Deere employs 3,600 people in Mannheim, 1,000 in Zweibrücken, 245 in Kaiserslautern, 1,500 in Bruchsal, and 7,700 across Germany. The sales of the German parts of the company in the 2023 financial year were around 8.9 billion euros; Total sales worldwide: the equivalent of almost 56 billion euros. The group also includes the road paver producer Joseph Vogele in Ludwigshafen with 1,200 employees.
