John Cleese cancels lecture at Cambridge due to Hitler riot

British actor John Cleese has canceled a lecture at Cambridge University. The 82-year-old comedian would give a speech to a group of students on Friday. But because the university canceled an art historian who previously imitated Adolf Hitler, Cleese decided he didn’t belong in the university either.

“I like to blacklist myself before anyone else does,” Cleese said on Twitter. “I am sincerely sorry for the students. I like to talk to them in a place where woke rules don’t matter.”

The comedian imitated Adolf Hitler in the iconic “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” program, which showed the ‘Führer’ in a boarding house in an English seaside town. Also, as his character of hotel owner Basil Fawlty in the series “Fawlty Towers”, Cleese did an imitation of the Führer. He did that in the episode in which he especially does not want to confront his German guests with the Second World War.

Cleese herself studied at Cambridge University in the 1960s. The cancellation of the art historian because of the Hitler impersonation was communicated on Monday by the chairman of the educational institution. The university has not yet responded to the British comedian’s statements.
