John Carmack chooses to leave his role as consulting technical director for Facebook’s parent company, Meta Platforms, he writes The limit.
Carmack has previously worked on the classic games Doom and Quake. He initially joined as CTO of Oculus in 2013, a company that was acquired by Meta the following year. Most recently, he held a CTO consultant role at Meta.
In an internal memo, Carmack chose to voice criticism of Meta’s management and vented his frustration. Among other things, Carmack expresses dissatisfaction with not being able to influence decisions within the company.
He describes it as a struggle to make his voice heard, even though he was at a very high level in the company. “Obviously I’m not convincing enough,” writes John Carmack.
