John and Kees’ Memorable Concert at Rotterdam Ahoy: A Dream Come True for De Bevers

After a lot of blood, sweat and tears, the day has arrived that John and Kees are in Rotterdam Ahoy: “Tonight we are going to accelerate,” John says determinedly. Kees and John both slept poorly. “I was awake all night,” says Kees. John doesn’t really feel that tension in his body, he says, but thinks that it has unconsciously kept him busy during the night. He also notices it in his voice: “It seems like I’m hoarse.” That would of course be the worst possible scenario for the singer and so he decides to rest in the morning.

Fortunately, it turns out not to be too bad in the end and John and Kees are ready to go on stage. But just before the start of the concert, Kees becomes very tense. “This is no longer a joke,” he says. The men are backstage, but it becomes too much for Kees: “Suddenly my heart took a double beating,” he tells the cameras.

Kees still decides to go around the stage, but when he sees a compilation of old photos appear on the screen, he breaks down. “I was already crying when the opening film started.” For a moment he is afraid that emotions will take over: “I think: that won’t work.” Fortunately, he manages to recover and takes the stage together with John. “There are a lot of people. That’s not normal, man, and they still come for us, so I like that,” says John very proudly.

The concert is a great success and De Bevers’ Ahoy dream has finally come true: “It was one big party. (…) I always say: music brings connection, but that is really true,” says John. Kees also experienced his stage debut as ‘fantastic’: “Just a kind of moment of happiness.”

The whole season of The Beavers look back at Videoland.
