As RHEINPFALZ has already announced in part of its edition, Johannes Beckmann will be artistic director at the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern from the 2023/24 season. This emerges from a press release from the district association of the Palatinate, which is the sponsor of the theater. The selection was made in the context of a multi-stage application process, it says in the communication.
New management structure
In future, the Pfalztheater will be headed by a team of three, not by a single director. The Swiss Urs Häberli is still the sole director until the end of the current season. Then there is an interim solution. In the future, the board of directors will consist of the artistic directorate, the operational directorate and the commercial directorate. Stefanie Niedermeier has been the commercial director for years, the position of operations management has not yet been filled.
Beckmann is 46 years old
The 46-year-old Beckmann, born in Mülheim an der Ruhr, studied musicology and philosophy in Bonn and Hamburg. He then worked as a cultural journalist, editor, author, orchestral musician and concert dramaturge – among others for the Beethovenfest Bonn, the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival, the International Bach Academy and the SWR Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart.
In 2007 he came to the Semperoper Dresden and worked there from 2010 as artistic project manager and deputy to the opera director in artistic matters. In 2013 he moved to the theater of the state capital Erfurt, where he has been the deputy general manager since the 2014/15 season.
