Johan Derksen is not prosecuted for statements about Jews Today Inside. Four reports had been filed against the television personality. The Public Prosecution Service dismisses those charges because Derksen has not committed any criminal offenses.

Derksen said in early October after Hamas’s attack on Israel that “the Jews kind of asked for it” because “those Palestinians were really treated like dogs.” In a later broadcast, he said he should have used the words “Israeli government” instead of “Jews.”

The Public Prosecution Service received four reports against Derksen for “group insults against Jews and incitement to hatred and violence against Jews”.

The Public Prosecution Service investigated the reports and the broadcast and came to the conclusion that Derksen was referring to the Israeli government and not to the Jewish people. “Criticism of the state of Israel or its politics is not punishable,” the Public Prosecution Service explains.

The director of interest group CIDI previously spoke of Derksen’s statement as a shame. Talpa, that Today Inside broadcasts, it was called upon to distance itself from the statements. The media company said it was open to a conversation with social organizations.
