In a ‘House Full of Emigrates’ we see this time that time is running out for Johan and Janneke Jelies. They will move to Spain in just three months, but before then they will of course have to find a home for their eleven-member family. They therefore go house hunting and father Johan appears to be immediately sold: he really loves everything and appears to have already practiced the Spanish language, much to the amusement of the viewers.
“My feeling here is really good”
The couple goes to look at houses with a Dutch real estate agent and they immediately hit the mark on the first house. “I can already see it. A beautiful apartment here and a beautiful apartment there,” Johan visualizes. “My feeling here is really good.” But of course Johan wouldn’t be Johan if he didn’t pay attention to the money. “You know how I am, for me everything revolves around the euro. We have to support our family, I don’t have to get rich,” he explains to the real estate agent.
Although they still have to look at a second house, Johan is actually already convinced. “I don’t think it can top this,” he tells Janneke in the car. To see if the area is something for them, they also visit the village. Although it is anything but lively, Johan is confident that it will be a great success. “In 20 years, I think this town will be a tourist attraction. I think if we invest in this, it will yield a lot for us.”
It’s a good thing that the move is only a few months away, because Johan appears not to have fully mastered the Spanish language yet. When he addresses a Spaniard in costume, it doesn’t go smoothly for him. He has difficulty making himself understood. And when Janneke points out a little later that it is very quiet in the town, he has a special explanation for this. ‘That’s because it’s a tiesta now!’
Viewers at home are shocked by his enthusiasm, but some people also wonder whether the couple has thought carefully about their emigration plan.
