On Sunday, Joeri de Kamps was presented by IK Sirius and just an hour later he did his first training with the team.
Yesterday, Monday, just over 24 hours after the transfer became public, he was in the blue-black starting eleven that lost against AIK (0-1) at Studenternas IP.
In other words, it was an eventful day for the meritorious 31-year-old, who has now landed in Uppsala, ahead of his debut.
– It has been quite busy. I still have a bit of “unfinished business” in my former club at the same time as I have to move out of my apartment there and bring my family here to Sweden, says de Kamps, who joins from Polish Lechia Gdansk, to the Football Channel.
– So yes, it was busy. But I’m happy to be here, out on the pitch and playing again.
Despite the loss, he enjoyed the meeting with AIK, which was also played in front of a record crowd (10,054 spectators) at “Studan”.
– I really feel like a footballer again with the crowd and the atmosphere that was here. It was a lot of fun, and the match was probably pretty fun to watch for the crowd.
– We had a good match and played well, but we didn’t score. And football is about scoring goals. If you don’t score, you won’t win any matches. We did not put the crown on our work today. And then it’s very shit that we lose the match in the last minute, says de Kamps.
Afterwards, de Kamps, who got to play 55 minutes against AIK, was praised in unison by both coaches and teammates in Sirius.
– He was great. I didn’t dare to risk him anymore because he was a bit tired in his hindquarters. But I am very happy with this new acquisition. Calm with the ball, aggressive, wins a lot of balls and above all he plays the ball forward when we win it. A good match for him considering that he landed here only the other day, says Christer Mattiasson.
Henrik Castegren has played together with the 31-year-old in Lechia Gdansk and was the one who recommended Sirius about the possible midfield find.
– I thought it was clear (how good de Kamps was in the match). I don’t know how many balls he won. His intensity in the defensive game, the aggressiveness to win the ball and the way he distributes it. I know what he can do and what he’s up to.
– It will be a huge, huge addition for us. He will be very good, says Castegren.
The main character himself, who was pulled out with injury problems last season and only played eleven games, is humbled when he hears the accolades.
– It’s always fun to hear. I tried to give everything for the team and be an important player. That’s why I’ve come here: to be important, to play and win games. Then others can say if I played well or not. I’m just trying to do my job, he concludes.
Joeri de Kamp’s contract with Sirius extends over the rest of the season. In addition to Lechia Gdansk has also represented Ajax (at academy level), Heerenveen, NAC Breda, Sparta Rotterdam and Slovan Bratislava in his career.
On the merit list there are 55 matches in the Dutch top league, Eredivisie.
