Cameroon center of the Philadelphia Sixers, Joel Embiid, is determined to enter the MVP race. If the initial predictions did not include him in the top 5 (Antetokounmpo, Doncic, Ja Morant, Donovan Mitchell and Devin Booker), last weekend he entered the fight to be the League’s Most Valuable Player in a big way. Embiid let loose with a game never seen before in the Sixers’ victory over the Jazz (105-98). The huge performance of the stud included 59 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists, 7 blocks and one steal. He is the first player in history to go over 50 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks in a single game..
Embiid scored 26 of the Sixers’ 27 points in the fourth quarter and he did it with exceptional percentages (19/28 on field goals and 20/24 on free throws). For many minutes the possibility of reaching quadruple (10 or more in four different game disciplines) was even discussed. The performance against the Jazz came 24 hours after another recital against the Atlanta Hawks. Harden’s loss “forced” Embiid to add 42 points against the Georgia State team.
The Jazz’s loss in Philadelphia pushed the Salt Lake City team out of the Western Conference lead now held by the Blazers and Nuggets with nine wins and four losses.
Embiid’s sensational match was not the only one on a day in which another player, “Knight” Darius Garland added 51 points. Cleveland couldn’t prevent the loss to the Timberwolves despite its point guard’s scoring fest.
The Lakers added their third win of the season (3/10 balance) in the second straight game that LeBron James was out. The trip of the Nets (without Kyrie Irving) ended with the triumph of the Californians thanks to the internal dominance of Anthony Davis (37 points and 18 rebounds). The duel between LeBron and Kevin Durant will have to continue to wait. Two of the league’s main stars haven’t been measured since Christmas 2018.
