Coach Joel Díaz believes that Danielito Zorrilla would look better in a profession other than boxing, stating that “he should be an actor in soap operas.”
Diaz trains junior welterweight Ruslan Madiyev, who lost a technical decision to Zorrilla in Puerto Rico. Danielito was most effective during the first three rounds of the fight before Madiyev began to fall in the fourth round.
A round later, Madiyev had a point deducted because he landed a right hand on the back of Danielito’s head. Despite the point deduction, and feeling that Zorrilla was slowing down from the impact of the punches, Madiyev continued to apply pressure to hit the same way.
At the end of the contest, Madiyev connected another right hand to the head, forcing Zorrilla to fall to his knees against the ropes, to later be treated on the ring, saying he could not continue. Decision that forced the referee to stop the fight and the winner was known on the cards.
One judge scored the fight 76-75 for Madiyev, while the other two judges scored the fight 77-75 and 77-74 for Zorrilla, who improved to 15-0, 11 knockouts. Hearing the scores and the result, Madiyev left the ring in disgust.
On this, Díaz affirmed that “the result was not fair”, because they knew that they were arriving in Puerto Rico “with everything against us.” In addition, he claimed that his boxer “was getting his rhythm” and regained his level after the fifth round.
“Zorrilla started to slow down because he was tired. He kept hugging Ruslan for most of the fight. The referee took a point from my fighter for hitting him on the head. But Zorrilla hugged herself too much. I told the referee three times that Zorrilla was hugging himself too much. But he never paid attention, ”he said.
In turn, Díaz confessed that representatives of Golden Boy Promotions approached him and told him that Madiyev should have won the fight; and confirmed that “Zorrilla wanted to get out of the fight.” “We were winning the fight. Golden Boy called me and said they saw the fight and we won, “he said.
“From the experience I have, I can tell that he was tired. He couldn’t take the pressure, and he chose the right moment to say that Ruslan hurt him. He was not injured. He is a good actor. I should go make movies. This is not fair to my fighter because he got to work, he got ready, but what can we do? We have to keep moving forward ”, he declared.
