Joel Asoro and Djurgården have reconciled after the weekend.
According to the Djurgård attacker, there was a misunderstanding behind the headlines after the 3-1 victory against BP.
– I understood immediately after I spoke to Bosse, then I apologized, Asoro told Sportbladet.
Djurgården won its Allsvenskan premiere against Brommapojkarna with 3–1.
After the match, however, it was perhaps mainly one of the headlines about one of the players who did not start, when Joel Asoro’s disappointed comments after the match regarding his missing starting place were met by a strong distancing from the sporting director Bosse Andersson.
Now the parties have reconciled.
– I just think there was a misunderstanding, especially from my side. We are on good terms today. You practice and there is a new match. No more than that, says Joel Asoro when Sportbladet meets him after Tuesday’s physical session at Kaknäs.
What was the misunderstanding?
– I actually don’t know that. Sometimes you might hear things that are a little wrong or that you didn’t listen properly. I just think that was it. I understood immediately after talking to Bosse, then I apologized.
Still dreaming of abroad
According to sporting director Bosse Andersson’s statements after the BP match, Asoro must have received a clear justification for what was required of him. This during a meeting on the Thursday before the premiere weekend.
What was said at that meeting?
– Standard, starting stuff how to play in Djurgården. I think I was the only one who misinterpreted.
Was there anything they thought you did wrong?
– I don’t remember that at all. The only thing I can assume is that what happened happened and I look forward.
Earlier last winter, there were a lot of rumors surrounding the Djurgård striker. Something that had then also been confirmed by myself was on the cards, even if it did not result in either Bordeaux or anything else.
How does it look now for the summer?
– I assume that we as Djurgården will do well. That’s what I think first and foremost. Depending on what you perform, you can see from there. But as I have said since I came here, it is a dream to go abroad again. But then you have to do well.
Fighting every day
It remains to be seen whether he will get the chance to be on the pitch, from the start, on Sunday away to Sirius.
In the premiere, Gustav Wikheim, Victor Edvardsen and new winter acquisition Oliver Berg got the chance in Djurgården’s front three.
Add to that that players like Jacob Bergström and Oskar Fallenius are also now in the squad.
How do you see the increased competition in the attack?
– Of course there must be competition as you get better from it. Then you fight every day to earn your place. I just assume that if you train well, you deserve a place I guess. There are many people who play at one’s position, so it’s just a matter of doing it as well as possible.
