Joe Gomez Happy to be a Starter Again

Liverpool

Joe Gomez really happy this weekend. Liverpool win and Gomez can feel like a starter again after so long.

Since becoming an important pillar when Liverpool won the 2019/2020 Premier League, Gomez did have bad luck last season. He suffered a second knee ligament (ACL) injury last November and was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Gomez did get through pre-season well and he could be back in action again at the start of this season. However, he even lost to compete with Joel Matip, who was quicker to fit and became a duet for Virgil van Dijk.

As a result, Gomez has only started four of 12 appearances in all competitions. In fact, he is now the fourth choice because Ibrahima Konate is preferred by manager Juergen Klopp.

However, Gomez was always patiently waiting for the opportunity to be a starter and it was successfully obtained when Liverpool hosted Norwich City, Saturday (19/2/2022) night WIB. Klopp’s decision to rotate his squad was a blessing for Gomez, who started as a starter at right-back replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold.

For Gomez, this is his first start in the Premier League since November 2020. The 24-year-old defender said he was happy to be playing again from the start in the Premier League, something he had been waiting for for more than a year.

Joe Gomez hoping to contribute more to the team in the remainder of the season, in order to help bring in trophies.

“Of course this is the moment I’ve been waiting for for a long time,” Gomez told the club’s official website.

“I’ve waited longer than I expected, but I always work hard and be the best member of the team I can be, pushing the other players and doing my part to a minimum when I’m not playing, to always be physically and mentally ready.”

“So that’s right, this is important to me.”
