Rising Star Ty Gibbs Gets a New Crew Chief for 2025 NASCAR Season
Joe Gibbs Racing is shaking things up for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season, pairing young driver Ty Gibbs with an up-and-coming crew chief, Tyler Allen. The move comes after a series of changes within the powerhouse team, including the promotion of veteran crew chief Chris Gabehart to Competition Director.
Allen, a talented 37-year-old strategist, previously served as crew chief for the No. 20 Xfinity Series team, leading them to an impressive eight victories with four different drivers in the 2023 season. This success, coupled with his prior experience working on Kyle Busch’s 2019 championship team under veteran crew chief Adam Stevens, caught the attention of JGR leadership.
While Allen was initially slated to guide Taylor Gray in the No. 54 Xfinity car, Gabehart’s promotion opened up a prime opportunity in the Cup Series. “It’s an honor to be named crew chief for Ty Gibbs and the 54 Team as we head into the 2025 season,” Allen said in a team release.
“This opportunity has been a dream of mine since starting here at JGR 10 years ago, and I’m thankful for the support and guidance I’ve received from my mentors, teammates, and everyone along the way. Ty has shown a lot of speed and potential the last two years, and I look forward to building on that experience to get the 54 car in victory lane.”
Gibbs, a highly touted prospect with impressive results in both ARCA and the Xfinity Series, is seen as a future NASCAR champion. He’ll enter his third Cup Series season in 2025, a crucial year for driver development. The combination of Gibbs’ raw talent and Allen’s strategic expertise promises exciting results.
This move signals Joe Gibbs Racing’s commitment to fostering internal talent. While the team traditionally follows a structured path for crew chiefs, the promotion of both Gabehart and Allen represents a bold departure from this norm.
The 2025 NASCAR season will also see Chase Briscoe join JGR, further amplifying the team’s potential for success. With these personnel changes and a talented roster, Joe Gibbs Racing is poised to remain a formidable force on the track.
