A gaffe marked Joe Biden’s visit to Ireland. The US president, who often touts his Irish roots, joked that he has no plans to return to the United States because he is at home.
In the border town of Dundalk, where his great-grandfather was born, he visited a traditional Irish pub.
There, however, the US president also made a gaffe – in an attempt to praise his distant relative and Irish national rugby team player who helped Ireland win against world champions New Zealand, he inadvertently mentioned a British paramilitary group responsible for the deaths of dozens Irish people.
Today’s program of the visit includes an address to the Parliament of the Republic of Ireland and a meeting with President Higgins and Prime Minister Varadkar. In the evening, Joe Biden will be the guest of honor at a banquet in Dublin Castle.
